- History: The Chatham House in Fredericksburg, Virginia has two gnarled, old catalpas on the lawn, one of which is the ancestor tree to this one. Chatham House was General Burnside's headquarters during the battle of Fredericksburg. The union suffered 13,000 casualties at the battle of Fredericksburg while the confederacy 5,000 during the battle that raged from December 11th through the 15th, 1862.
