A Visit to Ohio's Millennium Grove
I recently spent a great day with my older son, and the Coates family. My wonderful father-in-law, Whitey Coates, gave us the guided tour of this terrific Millennium Grove in Chillicothe, Ohio, which he and my mother-in-law were instrumental in founding and sustaining. He even wrote all the copy for the plaques. It contains numerous trees from across America that are direct descendants of trees from historic figures and sites; such as Mount Vernon, Johnny Appleseed, Harriet Beecher Stowe, James Madison, and even Amelia Earhart. The oldest traces back to 1619. The newest is from a sycamore seed taken to the moon by Apollo XIV.
